In industrial production, many process pipelines require the continuous transport of high-pressure media, imposing rigorous demands on the material's overall integrity and pressure-bearing capacity. Thanks to their seamless formation, seamless steel pipes are the preferred choice for high-pressure fluid transport systems, often paired with various fittings to construct complete pipeline networks.
Seamless steel pipes are manufactured by piercing and rolling solid steel billets; lacking longitudinal weld seams, they can withstand high internal fluid pressures. They avoid stress concentrations at weld points—which could otherwise occur during pressure fluctuations—thereby reducing the risk of pipeline rupture or leakage. Carbon steel seamless pipes offer excellent cost-effectiveness and are used for standard high-pressure water and compressed air lines, while stainless steel seamless pipes are employed for transporting corrosive process fluids; the latter feature smooth inner walls that minimize flow resistance and inhibit impurity accumulation.
Welded and galvanized steel pipes are typically used for low-pressure lines, complementing seamless steel pipes. Specialized oil well piping is designed to withstand the high-pressure, corrosive downhole environments encountered in oil and gas extraction. Beyond fluid transport, hollow structural steel sections are used to construct support frameworks and pipe racks. Fittings such as elbows, tees, and flanges facilitate directional changes, branching, and connections while ensuring a leak-proof seal, making them indispensable components of the piping network.
During the design phase, the specific grade and wall thickness of the seamless steel pipes are determined based on the medium's pressure, temperature, and composition. High-temperature applications utilize heat-resistant steel grades paired with external insulation, while corrosive environments require stainless steel or the application of an internal anti-corrosion lining. Following installation, pressure testing is conducted to verify the integrity of the pipes and their connections.
Seamless steel pipes can be joined via welding or flanges and are suitable for various installation methods, including overhead and underground layouts. For underground installations, an external anti-corrosion coating is applied to protect the pipe from soil and groundwater corrosion. The piping features high strength and strong resistance to external crushing forces, offering distinct advantages for buried pipeline projects located near heavy equipment in industrial facilities. With a reliable service life and minimal maintenance requirements, it is widely used for fluid transport in sectors such as the chemical and energy industries.
