Roofing projects for prefabricated buildings place high demands on the consistency and processing compatibility of raw materials. Steel coils—a form of coiled steel product—are well-suited for continuous roll-forming lines, allowing for the mass production of roofing tiles and cladding panels widely used in industrial plants, stadiums, and other structures.

Carbon steel coils offer stable base material strength and serve as the standard raw material for profiled roofing panels; roll-forming creates ribbed profiles that enhance overall structural rigidity, enabling the roof to support its own weight, snow accumulation, and maintenance loads. Stainless steel coils provide excellent corrosion resistance, making them ideal for roofing applications exposed to corrosive gases, such as chemical workshops or wastewater treatment facilities; they withstand environmental degradation over the long term, thereby extending the roof's service life. Galvanized steel coils feature a protective zinc layer on the base material and are the most common choice for roofing and cladding; this zinc layer acts as a barrier against air and moisture, preventing rust formation.

Silicon steel coils possess unique electromagnetic properties that distinguish them from standard construction materials; they are primarily used to manufacture iron cores for electrical equipment, where high magnetic permeability helps minimize energy loss during operation. PPGI (pre-painted galvanized iron) and PPGL (pre-painted galvalume) coils feature a pre-applied protective coating that offers both corrosion resistance and aesthetic appeal. These coils come in a wide range of colors, exhibit strong coating adhesion after forming—resisting cracking or peeling during bending—and are extensively used for factory roofing and exterior walls. Film-coated aluminum coils utilize an aluminum alloy base with a protective coating; they are lightweight yet highly corrosion-resistant, making them an excellent choice for long-span roofing projects where weight control is critical.

Steel coils facilitate long-distance transport and storage, while uncoiling equipment allows for continuous processing at manufacturing plants, ensuring high production efficiency, uniform panel dimensions, and ease of installation and assembly. During the engineering design phase, the appropriate coil type is selected based on the building's environment, roof slope, and load requirements; for instance, materials with thicker coatings are prioritized for coastal regions, while weather-resistant coated products are chosen for outdoor structures. Finally, the seams of the formed roofing panels are fitted with specialized sealing and waterproofing accessories to minimize the risk of leakage. Once discarded, the material can be recycled and remelted, aligning with the direction of green construction and continuing to deliver value in the field of prefabricated building envelopes.
