Ancillary mining facilities—comprising production workshops, raw material storage yards, maintenance shops, and similar structures—operate in environments characterized by high dust levels and significant humidity fluctuations.
Ancillary mining facilities—comprising production workshops, raw material storage yards, maintenance shops, and similar structures—operate in environments characterized by high dust levels and significant humidity fluctuations. Consequently, structural materials must offer a balance of strength, wear resistance, and resistance to environmental corrosion; steel plate products are well-suited to meet the construction requirements of such specialized facilities.
Carbon steel plates serve as primary load-bearing materials, utilized for stiffener plates on main workshop girders, base plates for equipment mounts, and decking for maintenance platforms. Given the substantial weight of mining equipment, heavy-gauge carbon steel plates effectively distribute loads and prevent localized stress concentrations, thereby ensuring the structural stability of platforms and bases. These plates can be cut and perforated on-site to accommodate necessary openings for equipment piping and conduits. Stainless steel plates are employed in workshop areas exposed to mineral slurry and saline mist; as mineral particles in the slurry can be corrosive, stainless steel resists such degradation and minimizes the risk of perforation or structural failure. Common applications include enclosures for sedimentation tanks and work surfaces for reagent preparation stations.
Galvanized sheet steel is used for roofing and wall cladding, protecting the main structure from rain and condensation. Its lightweight nature reduces the overall structural load and facilitates the rapid assembly of temporary storage yard enclosures. As mining sites are often remote with limited on-site construction capabilities, steel components can be prefabricated at a factory and assembled directly upon delivery; this approach reduces the need for on-site processing equipment and accelerates the construction schedule.
During the design phase, technical personnel determine plate thickness and protective measures based on the specific dust and humidity conditions of the mining area. Thicker plates are selected for high-wear zones, and wear-resistant coatings are applied in certain areas to extend service life. Sealing treatments are applied at joints to prevent dust and moisture from infiltrating the building interior. When facilities undergo modification or expansion, steel components can be cut, dismantled, and repurposed for temporary structures. Furthermore, discarded steel can be recycled and smelted, thereby minimizing resource waste associated with material loss. Thanks to their stable mechanical properties and processing versatility, steel plates continue to play a vital role in the construction of ancillary mining facilities.
